Brad Pitt and his Plan B producing partner Dede Gardner are moving on to their next production after winning an Oscar for 12 Years A Slave. They have just acquired “Anonymous vs. Steubenville,” a Rolling Stone article by David Kushner they will turn into a film.
The news was first reported by The Tracking Board, which noted that the project will focus on Deric Lostutter, an Anonymous hacker who uncovered the truth about the Steubenville, Ohio rape case. He made it through the lies that kept the facts about a 16-year-old high school girl’s rape out of the public eye. That information lead to two teens being found guilty and the indictment of the high school superintendent and other officials.
Despite when Lostutter uncovered, what he did to discover the facts means that he faces a 20-year prison sentence. The rapists are only facing a year in prison.
The Hollywood Reporter’s sources say that Plan B is currently trying to find a writer and director. Plan B’s Jeremy Kleiner will produce with RatPac Entertainment’s Brett Ratner and James Packer. TheWrap notes that New Regency is also co-financing.
Pitt’s Plan B is on a great run of success, having co-produced World War Z and The Tree of Life recently. It is also behind James Franco and Rupert Goold’s True Story.
