The first trailer for Clint Eastwood’s adaptation of the hit Jersey Boys musical has finally been released, showing how the iconic Hollywood legend takes on musicals.
Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, who managed to maneuver themselves out of New Jersey and to the big time, becoming one of the most popular acts of their time. The group’s countless hits include “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like A Man.”
Eastwood decided to go with a mostly unknown cast, at least to movie fans. John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda and Vincent Piazza play the group, along with original Broadway star Erica Piccininni as Lorraine. Christopher Walken plays Angelo “Gyp” DeCarlo, a mobster.
The trailer mixes the music with some of the most dramatic moments of the musical. It reveals how Eastwood will deal with many plot points using narration. Actors are frequently seen talking directly at the audience.
Jersey Boys opens on June 20. Should this turn out to be a hit, Eastwood might finally get to make that A Star Is Born remake he's been trying to do for years.
