The newest film in the X-Men series opens this May with X-Men: Days of Future Past. The new film focuses on time travel and the X-Men having to change events from the past in order to preserve their future. There have been many spin-off films being considered for other X-Men characters after the success of the Wolverine films, and right now Mystique is the character that is being strongly considered to have the next spin-off film.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that 20th Century Fox is curious on expanding with several other spin-off films for the characters from the X-Men franchise. They are especially interested after seeing all of the success that the characters from the Marvel universe have had with their own respective films.

Jennifer Lawrence has portrayed Mystique in the past two X-Men films and with her character having a major role in the upcoming film, Lawrence herself has expressed interest in doing her own movie about Mystique and the character’s origin and how she became the character she is currently.

This idea is currently in the development stage, but if the film is given the green light, Mystique will be the second X-Men character to have their own film franchise other than Wolverine reports Time. Hugh Jackman has starred in two spin-off Wolverine films and they have made over $300 million in the U.S. alone. FOX is hoping that more character spin-off films will have similar success.

A recent poll from EW.com asking fans which character they would like to see have their own spinoff, the current leader is Deadpool with 24%. Mystique comes in with 11% of the vote, but considering that Jennifer Lawrence is an oscar winner and major star right now, it seems that a Mystique spin-off film could be happening very soon.
