Syfy has announced that they will be moving forward with a television series to be based off of the 1995 drama 12 Monkeys. The film starred Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis.
The network went ahead and ordered the pilot along with a full series which includes 12 episodes. The show will be produced by Universal Cable Prods. and Atlas Entertainment, Variety reported.
The series cast includes some well known television stars. The show will star Aaron Stanford from Nikita, Noah Bean from Suits and Amanda Schull from Fringe.
Charles Roven, who worked on the film back in '95 will be producing the series along with Richard Suckle and Jake Kurily. Terry Matalas wrote the pilot.
Syfy president, Dave Howe, spoke about the upcoming show. "'12 Monkeys’ is a captivating time travel adventure and high stakes race against the clock. We are thrilled to add it to our slate of engaging and thought-provoking new scripted projects, including the recently announced event series ‘Ascension’ and the second season renewal of ‘Helix’ from Ron Moore," said Howe.
The Hollywood Reporter added that the show will start airing in January 2015.
