The 2022 World Cup set to take place in Qatar will bring an influx of sports fans to the small country, but in return it will ask these fans to follow their set dress code.
According to The Huffington Post, a campaign called “Reflect your Respect” will kick off next month and consist of women and children handing out leaflets in public places to promote the message,
“If you are in Qatar, you are one of us. Help us preserve Qatar’s culture and values, please dress modestly in public places.”
Natives of Qatar say that the invasion of revealing clothing from outsiders is not acceptable for the Islamic state’s culture. Al Arabiya News reports that nearly 85% of the residents in Qatar are foreign and that summers in Qatar can reach up to 50 degrees Celsius or 122 degrees Fahrenheit.
The dress code would require shoulders to the knees to be covered, men should not show chest hair and leggings to not count as an alternative for pants. Article 57 of the state’s constitution makes it mandatory for residents of the state and travelers who enter the territory to abide by the traditional dress rules.
