Republican strategist Karl Rove is denying that he suggested that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is suffering from “bran damage” as a result of her December 2012 fall.
Rove spoke at a conference in Los Angeles Thursday with Robert Gibbs and CBS News’ Dan Raviv. According to the New York Post, Rove shocked the audience by saying that voters need to be aware of the fall Clinton had in December 2012.
“Thirty days in the hospital?” Rove is quoted as saying. “And when she reappears, she’s wearing glasses that are only for people who have traumatic brain injury? We need to know what’s up with that.”
But Rove told The Washington Post that, “Of course she doesn't have brain damage.” According to NBC News, he also told Fox news that he “never used that phrase.”
Clinton’s rep told the Post, which alleged that Rove used the phrase several times during the conference, that the former First Lady is “100 percent.”
Still, Rove suggested that if Clinton does run for president in 2016, media outlets will want to see her medical records, as they usually do for candidates. Rove also said that he doesn’t think Clinton faked an illness just to get out of testifying on the 2012 Benghazi attack sooner.
