A Minnesota man has been found guilty of murdering two teenagers during a break-in at his home.
According to the Star Tribune, the jury only needed three hours to deliberate and debunk Byron Smith’s self-defense claim.
The 65-year-old received a life sentence for the 2012 Thanksgiving Day slayings of unarmed teens, Haile Kifer and Nicholas Brady.
Smith had been a target of some break-ins, so he made it look like he was not home and sat with his gun waiting for burglars to enter his house. The Associated Press noted that prosecutors argued that he went too far when he caught the teens breaking-in and shot them nine times.
This type of vigilante justice has become quite common lately for people who say they have been targeted by robbers.
On Tuesday, it was reported that a man in Montana was arrested after he shot and killed a teen who attempted to break into his garage.
And earlier this month, an Alabama man set a trap for would-be robbers in his home. In that instance, he fired his weapon into the ground and no one was hurt.
