The teen who has been charged in the fatal stabbing at Jonathan Law High School in Milford, Connecticut last week has been placed on suicide watch. Christopher Plaskon, 16, allegedly stabbed his classmate, 16-year-old Maren Sanchez, after she turned down his invitation to the junior prom.

The stabbing happened on April 25 just at the start of the school day. Sanchez was rushed to an area hospital, but later died. Her friends, family and teachers gathered for a vigil to remember her, instead of having the prom that night.

According to Fox News, a judge ruled today that Plaskon will remain on suicide watch until his probate cause appearance, set for June 4. Plaskon did appear in court today during the hearing, wearing a blue sweatshirt. He did not speak.

NECN reports that police documents released Tuesday showed that he told police when questioned last week, “I did it. Just arrest me.” Police did recover the knife Plakson allegedly used. The medical examiner said that Sanchez died of stab wounds to the torso and neck and ruled the death a homicide.

Plakson is currently held at a psychiatric facility, where he was arraigned on Tuesday.

“In prayer we ask for comfort for the Sanchez family and all of us so deeply affected by this tragedy,” Plakson’s family said in a statement. “We pray for the wisdom to guide us as we desperately try to pull together the shattered pieces of our families. And finally, we pray that time may soften our wounds and reveal forgiveness in the hearts of all.”
