Tourists from California had a bit of a scare on Wednesday when they felt glass cracking on the Willis Tower Skydeck.
According to WGN, Alejandro Garibay and some of his family members decided to take pictures from the glass platform box located on the 103rd floor of the building. When they stepped into the enclosure, they said they saw glass cracking under their feet.
"I looked down and I could see it cracking and lines going through the glass so we immediately just jumped off as fast as we could," said Garibay.
Officials stressed that while the tourists may have been scared, they were never in any danger.
CNN reported that Willis Tower spokesman, Bill Utter, said that what Garibay and his family actually saw cracking was not glass, but a protective coating. The coating, which keeps the glass from getting scratched, tends to crack sometimes.
The Ledge allows visitors to walk out four feet onto clear bays 1,353 feet above the city of Chicago for spectacular views.
An estimated 1.3 million visitors go up to the Skydeck each year. On clear days, four states Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin are all viewable.
