The Wire and Treme alum Wendell Pierce has been cast in Paramount's upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. drama Selma.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first learned the news, Pierce was cast to play as one of King's lieutenants during the Civil Rights Movement, Reverend Hosea Williams.
The film, which has already started shooting in Atlanta follows the story of black marchers who attempted to journey from Selma to Montgomery on foot trying to gain the right to vote. It took the marchers three attempts to actually make it to Alabama's capital after being beaten by police.
As previously reported, MLK will be played by David Oyelowo, while Carmen Ejogo is playing Coretta Scott King. President Lyndon B. Johnson will be played by Tom Wilkinson and Andre Holland will play politician and activist Andrew Young.
Middle of Nowhere director Ava DuVernay is helming the feature for Paramount. The film is being produced by Oprah Winfrey under her Harpo banner along with Plan B's Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Brad Pitt.
