With casting on the second season of True Detective expected to begin within the next month, it is natural that rumors have begun being spread as to who exactly will be playing the leads, as the show has to hit the reset button for its upcoming season.

Apparently, the minds behind the show are setting their standards high, as characters are apparently being model after actors like Joaquin Phoenix, Jessica Chastain, Christian Bale and Josh Brolin, according to Deadline.

Yesterday, showrunner Nic Pizzolatto began spreading gas on the rumors fire whenever he revealed that the show will have three leads instead of two like its first season. In addition to restarting the #TrueDetectiveSeason2 hashtag, this also lead to the revolution that the show will have two male leads and one female.

As it is already known that Matthew McCounghey and Woody Harrelson would not be returning to the show, the question as to who exactly could be playing these roles became a bigger question among fans.

As Deadline reports, "unspoken breakdowns floated around" that the three leads are going to be modeled off of actors like the ones mentioned above. Of course, just like the shutdown rumors of Chastain starring in the show were shut down, this does not mean that they will be in the show, but it does leave the possibility open that these actors are at least being sought after for parts. Essentially, these are the "prototypes" for the parts.

While this doesn't necessarily tell us who will ultimately be playing these parts, it does let fans know that they have big ideas in mind, and that they are not afraid to try going big for who they want for these parts. Will any of them take the bite? That'll have to be determined in later this month.
