Authorities have said that a woman in Galveston, Texas was allegedly drunk when she drove her car into a bayou while her infant son was strapped in his car seat.

According to KHOU, four teenagers were fishing when they saw Latonya Kirven drive her car into the water.

Nineteen-year-old Tyler Arcizo noticed that there was a child in the car and sprang into action.

“I was struggling with her to get the baby from her. She wouldn’t give him up. She kept pulling him from me and putting him under water,” Arcizo said.

The teen was able to free and rescue the six-month-old who was not injured.

News 92 FM reported that the 30-year-old mother plowed into an elderly man’s home and fled the scene before driving into the Offatts Bayou. He is listed in critical condition.

Police arrested and charged her with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.

She remained in jail on Wednesday and her bond was set at $160,000.
