An armed robber got more than he bargained for when a 79-year-old man bought back when he was robbed at gunpoint last Saturday.
ABC News reported Marvin Lail was at a convenience store filling up his around 7 am when he was approached by a man who demanded that Lail give him his wallet. However, the elderly man refused, even after the suspect showed his gun. When the suspect attempted to take the wallet by force, Lail did all he could to hold onto his wallet until a store employee walked out to see what was going on.
A report by the Orange County Sheriff reported that Lail’s only injury was some minor scuffing on one of his hands and that some cash had been stolen.
The police report also said Lail would be willing to go through with prosecuting and testifying against the suspect.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, in a statement to deputies, Lail said the only thing he was thinking was “You aren’t going to get my wallet.” Lail fought in order to keep his cash and identification. He did have a gun and a permit for a concealed-pistol, but it was in his car.
A cashier at 7/11 sent a fellow employee out to see what was going on. When he approached the suspect to find out what the situation was, the suspect left.
