The parents of Bowe Bergdahl were joyed to see their son released after being held captive for five years. However, they were not expecting death threats.
Bob Bergdahl received death threats by email since his son’s release.
According to Newsweek, Bergdahl received the first death threat on the day the city canceled a rally celebrating his son’s release.
City officials believed the event could have caused public safety and property risks.
The four threatening emails are currently being investigated by the authorities, CNN reported.
“We are working jointly with our state and local partners and taking each threat seriously,” said. FBI Special Agent William Facer.
Along with the death threats, Bowe’s hometown received angry calls and hate mail regarding Bergdahl’s release.
While being treated in Germany since his release, Bowe Bergdahl has claimed that he was tortured in captivity after attempting to escape, the Associated Press reported.
Bergdahl will remain in Germany until they believe he is emotionally ready to return home.
