On June 27th a new exhibit honoring the role of Iowa and Iowa natives on the silver screen will come to the State Historical Museum of Iowa, in Des Moines, Iowa.
The exhibit, known as “Hollywood in the Heartland,” will explore how Iowa has interacted with Hollywood, from the way it is portrayed onscreen to the way that film became a part of historical Iowan life.
Director of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs Mary Cownie, who oversees the museum, stated to The Washington Post,” “When it comes to the movies the best ones reflect our common bonds as people. They entertain us, they educate us, and they can even make us laugh and cry. That’s the magic of movies and we believe this new exhibit captures the contribution Iowans have made in bringing the magic to Hollywood.”
“Hollywood in the Heartland” will not only feature props from major motion pictures set in Iowa such as Field of Dreams and The Music Man , but also spotlights Iowa natives working on and behind the scenes in Hollywood, such as John Wayne, Donna Reed and Ashton Kutcher as described by the State Historical Society of Iowa.
