Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan starred together in two of the most acclaimed romantic comedies of all time, but it has been over a decade since they were on screen together. That could change though, as Hanks is in talks to star in Ithaca, Ryan’s directing debut.

The project was first announced back in January, and Hanks was already involved even at that point as a producer. His Playtone banner and longtime producing partner Gary Goetzman are producing the film, which centers on a 14-year-old boy growing up in California at the start of World War II. Jack Quaid, Ryan’s son, will also star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hanks is only in talks for a cameo part in the film.

If Hanks takes the role, it will be the fourth time Hanka and Ryan will appear in a film together. They memorably appeared in the Nora Ephron films Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail together.

Erik Jendresen wrote the script to Ithaca, which is based on The Human Comedy by William Saroyan. Sam Shepard and Melanie Griffith are also set to star and production will begin in Virginia in July.

Hanks just finished A Hologram for a King and will next make a Cold War thriller with Steven Spielberg that is still untitled.
