At one point, Ant-Man was going to be one of Marvel’s most anticipated projects, with Edgar Wright at the helm. Now that Wright has been replaced by Peyton Reed, there was some worry that this might delay production. However, Marvel chief Kevin Feige said that everything is still on schedule.
Before Comic-Con started, Feige told The New York Daily News, “We're full speed ahead and we start filming in a few short weeks.”
Based on the film’s Comic-Con panel, it would sound like Feige has every reason to sound confident that Ant-Man will make its July 17, 2015 release date. During the panel, Corey Stoll was revealed to be playing Yellowjacket, the villain in the film, going head to head with Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd. Evangeline Lilly will play Hank Pym’s daughter Hope Van Dyne.
In addition, Reed told Entertainment Weekly that he has exchanged “very good emails” with Wright. So, even if Wright had some creative differences with Marvel, Reed is excited to bring to life some aspects that were already created before he came on.
Marvel does have to do some recasting though. Patrick Wilson and two other actors have left. Rudd and Douglas, who have been on the film since before Wright left, are still onboard and excited to get to work.
