A family of hunters in Alabama set a state record when they pulled a 15 foot, 1,000-pound-plus alligator from a river near Camden.
AL.com reported that the family brought the reptile into the check-in station at Roland Cooper State Park to be measured and weighed.
Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries biologists measured the gator at 15 feet long and 1,011.5 pounds, making it the largest ever legally caught in the state.
The Associated Press noted that the group who took credit for pulling the massive creature from the water was made up of three adults and two teenagers. Mandy Stokes, John Stokes, Kevin Jenkins and his children Savannah, 16, and Parker, 14, caught the gator over the weekend during the state’s hunting season.
Alligators are the only dangerous-game species that can legally be hunted in Alabama.
The huge reptile has been dubbed as “Stokes Gator.”
The previous record holder was a 14-foot, 2 inch, 838-pound gator captured in 2011.
