Jamie Dornan already has one movie that’s going to be followed by sequels, but now he’s been linked to another big project that could have him busy for several years. According to a tabloid report, director Guy Ritchie wants the Fifty Shades of Grey star for his new King Arthur epic.
Ritchie, who is currently working on The Man from U.N.C.L.E. with Henry Cavill, met Dornan and was impressed. Dornan wants to take the part, too, but he is committed to two more Fifty Shades movies.
“Jamie is keen on the role, too, and his U.S. agents are keen to work out a deal where he'll be able to do both franchises,” a source told the U.K. Sun, reports The Daily Mail. “They have to convince Universal to allow Jamie to make the film with Warner Brothers, which isn't looking promising.”
The source further explained that Dornan is interested in taking parts outside of Fifty Shades so that franchise doesn’t become the only thing he is associated with.
The King Arthur movie is in the early stages, although Warner Bros. has a release date already - July 22, 2016. The only star linked to it is Idris Elba, who was reportedly in talks to play King Arthur’s friend Bedevere.
At the moment, the movie’s full title is Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur.
Warner Bros. and Ritchie have a long relationship, including the two Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr. His U.N.C.L.E. adaptation hits theaters on Aug. 14, 2015.
Fifty Shades opens on Valentine’s Day, 2015.
It is important to note that Dornan does have other parts on his schedule. He was cast in The Siege of Jadotville and also has a small part in Bradley Cooper's untitled chef movie.
