Looper director Rian Johnson revealed that the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII will have more practical effects and less CG than the prequel trilogy.
Johnson appeared on the Girls With Hoodies podcast and spoke a little about the upcoming J.J. Abrams directed Episode VII and not much on his own.
He simply quipped that discussing Episode VIII is "boring to talk about, because the only thing I can really say is, I'm just happy."
On the forthcoming Star Wars title he spoke about how this one is heading back in the direction of more practical effects as opposed to heaping amounts of CG. "I think people are coming back around to [practical effects]. It feels like there is sort of that gravity pulling us back toward it."
Johnson admitted that he feels like "a grumpy old man" talking somewhat negatively about CG and wonders whether it's now a "generational thing" with kids growing up and seeing more of it than practical effects.
Back in July, the Brick director opened up about being tapped to direct Episode VIII saying he was "really excited," and joked about how it simply must be a "clerical error" that he go the job at all, referencing Terry Gilliam's Brazil.
In addition to directing the second of the planned trilogy, Johnson will also write the script for Episode IX. Star Wars: Episode VII is set for a December 2015 release.
