Sony is looking to produce a female superhero film to the big screen set in the Spider-Man universe.
Little else is known about the project other than Avi Arad (right) and Matt Tolmach will produce the film, while scribe Lisa Joy, who co-created the upcoming HBO Westworld series, has been tapped to handle scriptwriting duties.
Joy, who is also an executive producer of the series, also has writing credits from Pushing Daisies and Burn Notice.
No specific female superhero's name has been tossed out there, but The Hollywood Reporter notes that some possibilities could be Spider-Woman, Black Cat or Silver Sable.
People have been looking for a female superhero film for awhile, and though there will likely eventually be a Black Widow-led film, nothing has really been announced. The Sony news also comes as Universal's Lucy did surprisingly well at theaters, opening to $43.9 million.
Actual movement on a female superhero films comes only two weeks after Sony announced that Amazing Spider-Man 3 was getting pushed back from a summer 2016 date to 2018.
The delay wasn't too surprising after the sequel struggled to dominate the box office earlier this year, though it wasn't exactly a slouch, either.
The studio also dated the planned Sinister Six film for Nov. 11, 2016, with Drew Goddard on board to both write and direct.
