The Lion King can be performed on the stage, on a plane and now in a train. The Broadway cast of the top-grossing show in the Great White Way’s history decided to break out into “The Circle of Life” on a New York subway train.
Although the video was taken on June 28, the footage just surfaced earlier this week. As TheGrio points out, there were over 30 members of the cast crammed into the subway car.
The second they start the song, it appears that fellow subway riders know what they’re doing, but none of them are too enthusiastic or surprised. Some do clap at the end, but most keep looking at their smartphones.
This isn’t the first time that “The Circle of Life” has been performed off the stage. Back in April, the Australian cast started singing the song on a plane. A video of that performance is up to 18 million views on YouTube.
Last year, the Broadway production of The Lion King reached $1 billion in total ticket sales. The show has been running non-stop since October 1997, just three years after the animated film was released. The touring company also hit $1 billion in North american sales last year.
