Twitter has announced that it will review its user-protection policies after Zelda Williams, daughter of the late comedian Robin Williams, was attacked on the site after her father’s death.
According to CNN, Twitter is looking to revamp some of its policies after Williams received hurtful messages from internet trolls, which forced her off the social media site.
On Wednesday, Williams tweeted that she was deleting the account and leaving her Instagram as well after receiving insensitive messages and horrific, altered images of her recently-deceased father.
In response to the action the 25-year-old took, Del Harvey, Twitter's vice president of trust and safety, said that type of abuse will not be tolerated on the site.
"We have suspended a number of accounts related to this issue for violating our rules and we are in the process of evaluating how we can further improve our policies to better handle tragic situations like this one," said Harvey. "This includes expanding our policies regarding self-harm and private information, and improving support for family members of deceased users."
Well it’s about time Twitter.
Williams’ father was found dead on Monday of an apparent suicide.
