Fans of the How to Train Your Dragon movie should be excited —if they weren't already - that a third movie will be soaring into theaters in the not-so-distant future. But don't quite expect it as soon as DreamWorks Animation initially announced, as the movie has been delayed a year. The reason for the push-back has not been disclosed at this time.

In a press release, the studio quietly disclosed the release date change when announcing that the movie crossed the $600,000,000 mark worldwide. The new release date for the movie will be June 9, 2017, instead of June 17, 2016. Which, coincidentally or not, was announced today as the opening day for Shane Black's The Nice Guys for Warner Bros.

After a rather disappointing initial box office reception here in the U.S., the sequel has gone on to become successful worldwide, as noted by crossing the 600 million mark. A big reason for the movie's new-found success was its exceptional China release, where it earned $50 million. Good numbers in South Korea, the UK, France and Germany didn't hurt either.

Although the date switcheroo is not officiated, one reason it could have been delayed was it being in contention with another animated sequel, Pixar's Finding Dory.

While I wasn't quite as over the moon about the sequel as some, it should still be appreciated as a darker, more consequence-driven sequel that even freely tackled some controversy with ease. Hopefully the third film will do the same three years from now.
