Javier Bardem sure loves playing villains. The actor is reportedly in talks with Disney to join Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

News of the talks was first reported by TheWrap, which did stress that they are in the early stages. Bardem’s rep also didn’t comment and Disney didn’t say anything yet.

The site reports that Christoph Waltz, another Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner for a villainous role, had been linked to Pirates 5’s villain role. However, Bardem is now in the picture.

Captain Brand is the villain, a ghost hoping to avenge his brother’s death, which he believes Captain Jack Sparrow is to blame for. Johnny Depp will return to play Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush might be back to play Captain Brand again.
Bardem is quickly becoming a go-to actor for villains. He won acclaim for his performance in Skyfall and won an Oscar for No Country For Old Men, in which he also played the villain.

Pirates 5 will not be released until July 2017, six years after Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Filming will start in 2015 in Australia.

Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who directed the Oscar nominated Kon Tiki, will helm Pirates 5.

The Pirates franchise, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, has grossed $3.7 billion worldwide. Clearly, everyone enjoys spending three hours with Depp’s bumbling pirate character.
