Joe Wright’s Pan will give audiences a very different look at J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan story, setting out to explain how Peter wound up in Neverland. Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the film today.
In Pan, the evil pirate isn’t Captain Hook, but Blackbeard, played by Hugh Jackman. Blackbeard brings a group of children to Neverland for, what can be assumed, nefarious reasons. Once Peter, played by newcomer Levi Miller, arrives, he’s put to work and meets a very different Hook (Garrett Hedlund) who takes him to other parts of Neverland. We also meet Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara) and see that Blackbeard doesn’t just let Peter get away.
The trailer’s release comes just a day after Entertainment Weekly featured the first stills from the film. The trailer should ease worries about Jackman’s wig staying on his head at least.
Warner Bros. takes audiences to a new Neverland in Pan on July 17.
