A male dog, born with undeveloped front legs which severely limited his mobility, was fitted for two prosthetics from a 3D-printing and manufacturing company.
ABC News reported that the husky was born with tiny front limbs that restricted him from running and playing with other dogs. But that all changed when he was rescued by Peace and Paws and taken in by foster owner Tara Anderson, who works for 3D Systems.
Anderson was unsatisfied with the wheeling cart option the dog named Derby used to get around on. She was determined to see him run so she began worked closely with engineers at the manufacturing company to get the pooch the perfect prosthetics.
The team used 3D scanners and other 3D modeling software to make Derby long looping prosthetics.
“The first time he was put on them and he took off running, he was so happy,” said Sherry Portanova, who became Derby’s permanent owner last summer. “I was absolutely amazed at how well he did.”
Derby can move about easily now with the new prosthetic legs and according to Portanova has become quite an avid runner.
