Two people have died following a shooting at a mall in Central Florida in Melbourne.

According to the Associated Press, the shooting occurred early Saturday morning before the Melbourne Square Mall was to open. Jose Garcia-Rodriguez reportedly targeted his wife, who worked at the food court. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after being taken to the hospital.

His wife, Idanerys Garcia-Rodriguez was said to be in the hospital listed in good condition. Officers had responded to the reports of the shooting around 9:30 am, which was a half hour before the mall was going to open for customers.

Commander Vincent Pryce with the Melbourne Police said, “We were still hearing shots when the first officers arrived on scene.”

Employees had taken cover in closets when they heard the sound of gunfire and were evacuated by police. Another man was shot and killed.

People reported the shooting appeared to be a domestic dispute. The mayor of Melbourne, Kathy Meehan, said a coworker had been shot when he tried to get the gun away from the gunman.

A Starbucks employee reported hearing “three or four gunshots” and security officials at the mall told her to stay in the store where she was working.
