A teenage couple from Kentucky who have escaped police during a multi-state crime spree were arrested in Florida without incident two weeks after they disappeared.
As previously reported, 18-year-old Dalton Hayes and 13-year-old Cheyenne Phillips went missing in early January and were involved in different crime sprees, including stealing two cars in both South Carolina and Georgia.
Other crimes included stealing a firefighter’s truck and making a check at a Wal-Mart, which turned out to be a bad check. The firefighter’s vehicle had weapons inside at the time it was stolen.
Huffington Post reported that the Grayson County Sherriff’s department made a statement that the arrest occurred on Sunday at around 12:10 am. They were found sleeping inside a stolen 2001 Toyota Tundra. They face extradition to Kentucky, where felony charges await.
Tammy Martin, who is Hayes’ mother, said the couple had been together for three months and that Phillips claimed to be 19.
Before the teens went missing, Hayes was due in court on charges for burglary and theft.
