Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin apologized for his inappropriate touchdown celebration during the Super Bowl.
Yahoo Sports reports that Baldwin was given a 15-yeard penalty and later fined $11, 025 after simulating defecating on the football after a touchdown catch in the third quarter against the New England Patriots. Baldwin issued an apology on 710 ESPN's The Barbershop show to Seahawks fans and NFL fans.
“I do regret the fact that it cost my team 15 yards, and to the fans, ultimately, I apologize to anybody who I offended in any way,” Baldwin said. “It was a competitive situation."
According to Deadspin, Baldwin added that his celebration was directed toward Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis who was defending him throughout the game. Baldwin said that he was intensely focused on the matchup in the weeks leading up to the game. The touchdown was his first catch and target of the Super Bowl.
Despite the theatrics, the Patriots ended up defeating the Seahawks, 28-24.
