Maroon 5’s hottest single Sugar coupled with its wedding crasher music video now has a fiery flavor with the addition of Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj.
In the new version, Minaj opens with stating her name along with Maroon 5 and then instantly transitions into the rapped lines “Let’s Go; Yo, I got them Now & Laters and them Jolly Ranchers too; It ain’t a question, but I got the answers too; These shoes is Cavalli, and the pants is too; When I see him I’m a strip like the dancers do; I’m a show them how to do it like them pamphlets do; Show these girls how to do it off campus, too; Yo, as long as you know he got the baddest, I’m flattered; I’m the only one he answers to.”
She then proceeds to sing, “And if you need it then I’m a put it on ya; Ain’t nothing sweeter, you want this sugar, don’t ya.”
“Up, down, inside, water park it, slip slide; Woulda, coulda, shoulda got ya sugar, get ya sugar,” include the last lines of Minaj’s collaboration and are rapped in a deeper tone than the rest of her intro. The song then proceeds to the chorus, with Levine singing the remainder of the remixed tune, with only major difference lying in the enhanced sped-up beat with added sound effects.
Minaj hinted at the pop/hip-hop collaboration only one day prior to its release with the album artwork on her Instagram. After its official issue date the established rapper posted edited images with lead singer, Adam Levine, in regards to the upgraded song.
Apparently, “Sugar” isn’t the only track on the band’s album, V to include rap. “Maps” and “Animals” also issued remixes, which included R&B artists J.Cole, Big Sean, and Big Boi, according to Rolling Stone.
Both Minaj and Maroon 5 are accomplishing big things in the music industry. On Feb. 16, Maroon 5 kicked off THE MAROON 5 WORLD TOUR 2015 in Dallas Texas and plan to hit 27 North American cities due to the success of their album titled V, Maroon 5’s official site announced. Also successful in her musical endeavors, Minaj’s vocals paired with Ariana Granda and Jesse J on “Bang Bang” proved to work well due to it’s 4X multi-Platinum rating as of this week, also found on Nicki’s Instagram.
The “Sugar” remix was released on March 10 and is now available on iTunes for those of you who can handle a little spice in your musical appetite.
