We're getting a sequel to Independence Day next year, but unfortunately Will Smith will not be returning. Thankfully, though, the movie has just added two original cast members to the production.

Original cast members Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch will be returning for Independence Day 2, director Roland Emmerich confirmed on Twitter. Emmerich tweeted out two images to celebrate the actors' return.

In the original movie, Bill Pullman played President Whitmore and Judd Hirsch payed Julius Levinson, father of Jeff Goldblum's character.

Speaking of which, Goldblum will also be reprising his role in the sequel, as we previously reported. These two new additions now give us a pretty good amount of original cast members back, though of course Will Smith is probably the actor you'd most associate Independence Day with.

The sequel will also be adding a few new characters to the mix. Jessie Usher will apparently be filling in the Will Smith type role, playing the son of Smith's character in the first film, as we previously reported. The sequel will also be adding in a character played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, known for a variety of Lars von Trier films like Melancholia and Antichrist

Like the original movie, Independence Day 2 will be directed by Roland Emmerich, the king of blowing stuff up. It will be written by James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright, and is expected to hit theaters on June 24, 2016.
