Character actor Geoffrey Lewis, who appeared in several Clint Eastwood movies, died on Tuesday. The actor, who is also actress Juliette Lewis’ father, was 79.

A family friend confirmed to Variety that he died of natural causes in Woodland Hills, California.

Lewis was born in San Diego, but grew up in Rhode Island. He moved back to California at age 10 and really got his career started in 1970. He was prolific both in films and television, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Flo in 1981.

Lewis started working with Eastwood in 1973’s High Plains Drifter and continued to appear in Eastwood productions into the 1990s. His other Eastwood credits include Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Bronco Billy, Pink Cadillac and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

Other films and shows Lewis appeared in includes Heaven’s Gate, Dillinger, The Devil’s Rejects, Maverick, The A-Team, Murder, She Wrote and Little House on the Prairie.

Lewis is survived by his wife Paula Hochhalter, daughter Juliette Lewis and nine other children. Juliette Lewis can currently be seen in ABC’s Secrets and Lies.
