In 2013 Barkhad Abdi had a breakout role in Captain Phillips along side Tom Hanks and is now working on his new project in Detroit, Michigan. Abdi will be featured in Luke Jaden's short film Wolf Who Cried Boy.
The Detroit Free Press reported that Abdi has just completed his portion of filming in Detroit. Abdi stars in the film along with Torrey Wigfield and Dwight Henry, 12 Years A Slave.
Jaden has had a growing career in the film. Jaden is co-directing Wolf Who Cried Boy with Cort Johns. The two, who also wrote the screenplay together, want to take this short film and expand it into a feature-film version. Another Oscar winner Whiplash followed a similar path, originally being a short film that was expanded into a feature.
The Listing Jaden's horror short film debuted at the Colorado Stanley Film Festival. The film has been gaining interest and critical acclaim, including being mention by Entertainment Weekly as a highlight of the film event.
