The second Star Wars: Anthology film, which will not be directed by Fantastic Four’s Josh Trank, will reportedly center on the origin of bounty hunter Boba Fett.
There’s been rumblings about a possible Boba Fett-centric film ever since Disney announced that Star Wars stand-alone films would be happening, but TheWrap is confident in reporting that this is now more than just one of our delusions of grandeur.
Disney still hasn’t confirmed it though and probably won’t until a director is officially hired.
Boba Fett, for those who aren’t well versed in the Star Wars universe, is the coolest bounty hunter in the galaxy. He’s the guy who tracked Han Solo to Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back and took him to Jabba the Hutt. Fett was killed when Han hit his jetpack in Return of the Jedi, but (now non-canon) Expanded Universe stories brought him back to life.
In Attack of the Clones, George Lucas made him a clone of Jango Fett, the Mandalorian warrior who served as the basis for the Old Republic’s clone troopers.
So, should this Anthology film turn out to be a Boba Fett origin story, it would bridge the gap between his childhood and Empire. (There was a young adult novel series that did that, but of course, that is now non-canon, too.)

Simon Kinberg (Fantastic Four, X-Men: Apocalypse) has been working closely on this film. Trank was set to direct, but officially left on Friday. Rumors suggest that Trank’s behavior on the FF set may have dissuaded Disney and lead to his departure.
The first Anthology film will center on how the Death Star plans were stolen and is titled Rogue One. Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is directing and it will hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.
