Tullian Tchividjian, one of Billy Graham’s grandsons, has resigned from the Coral Ridge Presbyterian megachurch in South Florida after admitting to having an affair. He is married with three children.
Tchividjian, 42, sent a statement to the Washington Post, revealing that he discovered that his wife, Kim, was having an affair. While the two were separated, he had his own “inappropriate relationship” with a friend. He met with the church leaders last week and they decided it would be best if he resigned.
“Both my wife and I are heartbroken over our actions and we ask you to pray for us and our family that God would give us the grace we need to weather this heart wrenching storm,” Tchividjian told the Post. “We are amazingly grateful for the team of men and women who are committed to walking this difficult path with us. Please pray for the healing of deep wounds and we kindly ask that you respect our privacy.”
Kim, who married Tchividjian in 1994, added, “The statement reflected my husband’s opinions but not my own. Please respect the privacy of my family at this time, thank you. I do thank everyone for the outpouring of love for my family as well during this difficult time and we appreciate all the prayers and support we are receiving.”
Rob Pacienza, the executive pastor of Coral Ridge, added that they are “saddened by this news, but are working with and assisting Pastor Tullian and his family to help them through this difficult time.”
As People notes, Tchividjian became senior pastor at Coral Ridge in 2009, succeeding James Kennedy. He was considered a rising star before his resignation.
Tchividjian became the fourth Florida megachurch pastor to resign recently after admitting to an affair.
