The Weinstein Company made a couple of moves yesterday afternoon. The biggest move was moving up Todd Haynes’ acclaimed Carol to November. The studio also retitled Bradley Cooper’s chef movie again.
Carol, which won Best Actress at Cannes for Rooney Mara’s performance, was previously scheduled for release on Dec. 18. However, as Deadline notes, the film will now move up to Nov. 20.
Based on a Patricia Highsmith story, Carol is set in the 1950s, with Cate Blanchett as the titular character. Carol is a married woman who falls in love with a store clerk, played by Mara. It earned wide acclaim at Cannes and is expected to be a major player in the awards season.
TWC also changed the name of Adam Jones, the John Wells-directed film that stars Cooper as a once promising chef who tries to revive his career after a meltdown. It was first titled Chef, but it was changed to the name of Cooper’s character to avoid confusion with the Jon Favreau comedy Chef.
Now, Adam Jones will be named Burnt and will be released on Oct. 23 instead of Oct. 2. The supporting cast includes Uma Thurman, Sienna Miller, Jamie Dornan and Alicia Vikander.
