Amy Poehler is getting busy on the movie side now that Parks and Recreation finished up earlier this year. In addition to her upcoming Sisters with best friend Tina Fey, she’s set to star in a basketball comedy set up at Universal.
The project currently doesn’t have a title, reports Variety. It will be written by co-star Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen. Poehler will produce with Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark through Bluegrass Films. executive producers include the two writers and Brooke Posch of Paper Kite.
Poehler will play a disgraced basketball coach who is suddenly hired to coach an NBA team. While that sounds unbelievable, the idea comes after San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon coached her team to the summer League title.
Poehler just voiced Joy in Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out and will next be seen in Sisters on Dec. 18. She’s also working on The House with Will Ferrell for New Line. Poehler won a Golden Globe for Parks and Recreation, which completed its seven-season run on NBC earlier this year.
Barinholtz is also an actor, playing Morgan on Hulu’s The Mindy Project. He also appears in Sisters.
