A production assistant was shot and killed in Hollywood while taking a walk with her boyfriend.
The Daily Mail reported that Carrie Jean Melvin, 30, was walking down Sunset Boulevard Sunday night when the suspect came up behind her and shot her in the back of the head. No one else was hurt and the man escaped in a black sedan.
A spokeswoman for the LAPD, officer Sara Faden, said the motive for the shooting was not known and they don’t know why the suspect targeted Melvin but did not kill the boyfriend.
Melvin had previously worked for Fredric Golchan Productions as a production assistant.
The Los Angeles Times reported that no evidence at the scene indicated it was a robbery gone bad and that the suspect did not exchange words with the couple.
Detective John Skaggs said, “We just don’t know. On the one hand, she didn’t have any known enemies. On the other hand, it looks like it was directed toward her…We’re looking at all angles.”
Her father, Bernie Melvin, reportedly said his daughter was studied at UC Santa Cruz in film and she wanted to work in the entertainment industry. Melvin was described as a loving person who was able to befriend anyone she interacted with.
The suspect is described as a black male around 6 feet tall and at least in his mid-20s. He was wearing dark clothes at the time of the shooting.
