One Direction's new single remains at the top of the charts, but Shawn Mendes just covered the song, and it melted our hearts.

Mendes, known for increasing fame through covers on Vine, released yet another one on Wednesday. He sang an acoustic version of One Direction's single, "Drag Me Down."

The black-and-white video featured Mendes sitting on a stool-- just him and his guitar.

The 17-year-old is currently busy opening for Taylor Swift's 1989 World Tour. Last weekend, Swift surprised him on his birthday. She invited all of the 60,000 people who came to her show Saturday night to sing for Mendes. The rising pop singer was glowing with happiness as the crowd sang "Happy Birthday" as he turned 17.

Later that night, he posted a photo on Instagram thanking Swift. "Coolest birthday ever," the caption said.

Mendes will headline his own show at the Greek Theater in L.A. on Sunday. The concert will also include Andy Grammer and Jacquie Lee who will sing on stage.
