The Chinese Communist Party has made history by announcing that it will no longer be restricting the number of children couples are allowed to have to just one. Instead, couples may now have two.

"To promote a balanced growth of population, China will continue to uphold the basic national policy of population control and improve its strategy on population development. China will fully implement the policy of 'one couple, two children' in a proactive response to the issue of an again population," they announced.

This shocking announcement came after the Party realized that the incredibly low fertility rate would eventually grow to threaten the legitimacy of their rule.

Additionally, the measures that were deemed necessary to continue the one-child policy caused immense suffering throughout the country. Forced abortions and sterilization methods have been unofficially enforced since the 1980's, some of which had disastrous side effects for those who had these operations.

China instated this policy in the 1970's, during a time when most of the world was concerned about overpopulation. With China's strong government, and immense population, the Communist Party took a rather drastic approach by enforcing this birth control policy.

The policy will not officially change until the Chinese legislature approves it, but many Chinese couples are already excited to grow their families.
