After being shrouded in mystery for months, the upcoming Prometheus sequel now has an official plot description.
20th Century Fox's treatment reads, "Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."
The biggest question raised is what exactly happened to Elizabeth Shaw? Noomi Rapace is expected to return, yet the synopsis does not mention her. The last time we saw Elizabeth, she was accompanying David on a journey, but now he's the sole survivor of the Prometheus expedition? This really just raises more questions than it answers, much like the original Prometheus.
20th Century Fox has confirmed another Prometheus film after this one, describing Covenant as "the second chapter in a prequel trilogy" that will directly connect with the original Alien. They also released the movie's logo, and despite it theoretically being a Prometheus sequel, the title sure makes it sound like Alien 5.
Alien: Covenant will begin shooting this February and will be released in summer 2017.
