Gambit, the X-Men spin-off movie that will star Channing Tatum in the title role, might finally have a director once again. The film, which is still scheduled to be released next year, has been looking for one ever since Rupert Wyatt left in September.

On Thursday, TheWrap confirmed that Doug Liman, who helmed Edge of Tomorrow and The Bourne Identity, is close to signing on for the gig. There was a rumor that Liman was being considered in October.

20th Century Fox is hoping to have Gambit in theaters on Oct. 7, 2016, making it the third X-Men movie of the year after Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse. The film will star Tatum as Gambit, a Cajun mutant with the ability to manipulate kinetic energy. Lea Seydoux is reportedly set to play the female lead.

Liman just filmed Mena with Tom Cruise, although that film won’t be out until January 2017.

Wyatt, who is best known for directing Rise of the Planet of the Apes, left the film in September.
