The days of media-hype and fanfare in anticipation for one’s album to drop may become a thing of the past. In what has now become the norm, Ariana Grande surprised-released her new album on Thursday.
Variety noted that the singer surprise-released a new Christmas EP titled, Christmas and Chill. The album features six tracks with original songs including “Wit It This Christmas,” “December” and “Winter Things” and is a follow-up from her previous Christmas Kisses album comprised of the holiday classics.
The 22-year-old took to Twitter to announce the release and revealed that with the help of her friends, the EP took less than a week to complete.
Grande isn’t the only singer who has been keeping with the surprise-release trend lately. In fact, many artists are following in what was started by Beyoncé and have been surprising fans by announcing that their new albums are out via social media. As we previously reported, Willow Smith surprise-dropped her debut album Ardipithecus last week and a few days later Prince announced that his new HITNRUN Phase Two LP was out and available through Tidal.
