New York critics have gathered today to pick winners for the 2015 New York Film Critics Circle awards.

The first big story is Kristen Stewart pulling off a major surprise for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Olivier Assayas’ Clouds Of Sils Maria. While her performance in the film made her the first American actor to win a competitive award at France’s Cesar Awards in February, the film has been mostly forgotten about during the awards season.

Todd Haynes’ Carol is starting to pick up steam thanks to wins for Best Cinematography (Edward Lachman) and Best Screenplay (Phyllis Nagy). The film also won Best Picture and Best Director, but Cate Blanchett surprisingly lost Best Actress to Brooklyn's Saorise Ronan.
