The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC released the first promo for the 88th Academy Awards on New Year’s Day. Of course, it features the new host, Chris Rock.
Rock, who last hosted the Oscars in 2005, was hired for the gig in October. He was picked by new producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin. Hudlin previously worked with Rock on the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris.
In the 15-second spot, Rock points out how the Oscars are similar to New Year’s Eve.
“Much like New Year’s Eve, it will be a night that ends with a lot of drunk, disappointed people swearing they’ll do better next year,” Rock says.
Nominations for the Oscars are announced on Thursday, Jan. 14 and the ceremony is held on Sunday, Feb. 28 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. It will air live on ABC.
