Kim Basinger has just signed on for a role in Fifty Shades Darker, the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey, based on E.L. James' book of the same name.
E! News reports that 62-year-old Basinger is slated to play Elena Lincoln, Christian Grey's business partner and former love interest who introduced him to the world of BDSM prior to his relationship with main character Anastasia Steele. According to Entertainment Weekly, Lincoln is meant to be brought on as an antagonist to Anastasia Steele.
As we reported in November, James Foley will replace Sam Taylor-Johnson to direct the film and Niall Leonard, E.L. James' husband, will write it.
Basinger will be joining returning stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, who will be reprising their roles as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, respectively. The film is set to begin production next month and is slated to be released on February 10, 2017.
The third film, Fifty Shades Freed is also expected to be released the following year on Feb. 9, 2018.
