While Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was evading arrest after escaping prison, he apparently had secret meetings with actor Sean Penn for an exclusive interview for Rolling Stone.
The website had the article up on Saturday night and in the issue, Penn wrote about how he worked on organizing an interview for quite some time.
Guzman was captured on Jan. 8 after six months of being on the run.
Guzman escaped custody from Altiplano I Penitentiary through a secret tunnel he had dug. In the interview, Guzman claimed that despite his infamous notoriety as the head of a drug cartel, he was not violent.
He said, “Look, all I do is defend myself, nothing more. But do I start trouble? Never.”
The interview took place at his hide out in a secret location in Mexico’s wilderness. ABC News reported Penn is being investigated by officials, most likely to find out why he did not share information about his contact with Guzman.
According to The Associated Press, Mexican authorities were able to locate Guzman because of the interview since he had been in touch with both producers and actors wanting to make a biopic about his life.
