‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is already set to be one of the longest superhero movies ever, will get an “Ultimate Cut” for its home video release that will be rated R.
The discovery of an R-rated version was pointed out by ComicBook.com after it showed up on the MPAA’s Classification and Rating Administration bulletin.
The bulletin does not list the running time for the Ultimate Cut and only lists “rated R for sequences of violence.” The theatrical cut is already expected to run 151 minutes.
While some might think that this is a knee-jerk reaction to Deadpool’s success, keep in mind that director Zack Snyder has done alternate cuts of his previous films, including Sucker Punch and Watchmen. It’s also not clear if this R-rated version will be included in the first edition of the BvS Blu-ray or if it would be held back for another edition. (Warner Bros., just like every other studio, loves to make you buy more than one edition of a movie.)
BvS hits theaters on March 25 and the studio starts shooting Justice League - Part 1 in April. The film stars Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman.
