In honor of the 20th anniversary of Hanson’s massive hit, “MMMBop,” the Hanson brothers Taylor, Isaac and Zac Hanson have revealed we’ve been singing the chorus of the song wrong all of this time.

Hanson sat down for an interview with Vulture to discuss the song and their early days as a band in the ‘90s, saying they had the chorus first and they essentially “built the song around it.”

They said they haven’t heard any good covers of the song over the years. “You know why? People can’t sing the chorus right,” said Isaac. “Most of the time they syncopate it wrong.”

While Zac said he thought the song “probably needs a really good cover …” Isaac suggested Bruno Mars would “find a way to kill it” if he were interested. However, Taylor Hanson thinks it should be Fitz and the Tantrums.

Whoever wants their cover to be Hanson-approved needs to "either make it totally their own in a genuinely unique way, or it needs to be a band that has a sensibility for old R&B," Taylor continued.
